I am SO ADDICTED to this series! I absolutely ENJOYED Strings, ADORED Beats, but I FUCKING LOVED Nocturnes! Every damn time Kendall Grey knocks it out of the park with her writing style. It's dirty, raunchy, naughty, and it just hit the spot for me. Who wants to read dull romance books, when you can have an Erotic Rock Star Romance with a KICK ASS element!
Braxton Rathbone, a.k.a. Rex, a.k.a. RAX fucking Wrathbone! Rax is a rock start that you LOVE to HATE! He makes horrible decisions, he drinks too much, he swears like a fucking sailor, he sleeps with anything and anyone! But it's OK because when he steps on stage and starts playing on his guitar, all the bad decisions and horrible choices fade away and he is left with the MUSIC. Nothing else matters! It's every other second of the day he isn't in this element where you start to worry about Rax. I have got to say that when Rax is drunk, it is by far one of the most fucking hysterical things, I have read in a long time. He is definitely unforgettable.
Eve, a.k.a. LOLA! Oh boy, I wanted to hate her so much! She was incredibly full of herself in the looks department. She was absolutely beautiful and she knew it too. Little ballet dancer turned full on stripper. Losing her parents at such a young age had to be difficult and she is dealing with it the best way she knows how, trying to save up and have a better life. It is what her parents would have wanted for her. The things she has to go through was so incredibly hard to read. It broke my heart, it made me soften up to her and understand her better. Eve is not only beautiful, she is fucking strong!
If you read the previous books, you remember Lola, Rax's drug of choice for a couple of minutes. He thought he would never see her again, but while the band is in New Orleans putting together a record, he stumbles upon a club called NOCTURNES and he spots her. Lola is more than she seems and NOCTURNES is definitely more than it seems. Rax is a total drunken mess after what went down with Jinx and Toombs. He hides away with his tequila, cursing at everyone that looks at him funny. He finally finds his Lola and he is not letting her go until he has her.
Despite the laughter and the cringing and the tons of kinky fun, there is a deep down, emotional roller coaster ride that both Rax and Eve go through together as well as apart. Eve had a horrible tragedy happen in her life. Rax is about to hit rock bottom with his drinking. It's real life problems that everyone goes through, and it's heartwarming to connect with these characters on that deep emotional level.
So even though Kendall Grey can write like a rock star, creating words and phrases that I have never heard before, making her readers crack up with laughter, she also has that special connection with her readers, getting in to the tough stuff, the nitty-gritty of the world, and makes us think and feel. I'm so incredibly elated that I found this author, and I can't wait to see what dirty, filthy, x-rated smut she comes up with next!
