"I'm a Master. A title that defines who I am and how I stay grounded. My thumb is always on the pulse of everything that happens around me - or so I thought."
Master Undone is a prime example of why Lisa Renee Jones is at the top of my favorite author list. She takes this man who I wasn't very fond of from the beginning and forces us to see another side of him, a somewhat vulnerable side of him, that just makes you want to reach out and hug the hell out of him! Since the very beginning of the Inside Out Trilogy, Mark Compton has been the bad guy, the mysterious guy, the guy that took control of everything he came across, The Master. Master Undone shows us that Mark Compton has this side of him, this side he NEVER lets anyone else see. This is the Mark Compton that I now have a soft spot for.
"I trust this woman more than I trust myself right now. And that scares me in a way I haven't been scared in a very long time."
Master Undone shows us Mark's POV after the end of BEING ME, book 2 in the Inside Out Trilogy. It's been about 48 hours after he learns what really happened to Rebecca, and you can just feel that he is a broken man. He blames himself for everything no matter what anyone tells him. When he has to fly to New York on a family matter, he meets Crystal Smith, the new head of sales for Riptide. He is instantly befuddled with her. He feels and says things to her that he would normally never divulge to anyone. He fears that he is no longer in control with her. She brings out something inside him that he should not be feeling so soon. I loved reading how Mark struggled with his emotions towards Crystal. When all Crystal wanted to do was "just fuck," it bothered Mark and I don't know if it was because SHE was the one demanding it or because he felt something more. Lisa Renee Jones definitely created the PERFECT other half for Mark Compton. It is about time that Mark met his match. I can't wait to see where it goes from here.
"I need to control this woman before she does what no other woman has, and truly controls me."
I did not want this story to end. I knew going in to it, it was only a novella, but that didn't mean I couldn't curse to the moon and back when it ended abruptly. I just have to say THANK YOU to Lisa Renee Jones for putting out Rebecca's Journals and Master Undone, because it gives SO MUCH more to the story with all of these different POV's. It also keeps me from going crazy waiting for REVEALING US to come out.
